The Mighty Oaks Approach

"The Mighty Oaks curriculum makes learning fun—my child is excited every day!” — Antonia, PN Class

School-Based Curriculum

Theme with Spiral learning Objectives

Our curriculum is written by early childhood experts to meet the specific needs of Mighty Oaks students. It is integrated, engaging, and child-centred, designed to promote character development while making learning fun and meaningful.

Moral Education: The Nine “Fruit of the Spirit”

At the heart of our curriculum is a strong foundation in character education. We intentionally teach the nine Fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control — through everyday activities, helping children grow into caring and responsible individuals.

Social-Emotional Learning

We implement the award-winning PATHS® programme, an evidence-based curriculum that builds children’s abilities to recognise and manage their feelings, solve problems, and form healthy relationships. This enhances their emotional intelligence and resilience, especially during life’s challenges.

Language and Literacy

Through daily exposure to English, Cantonese, and Putonghua, children build strong foundations in vocabulary, phonics, and social communication. Our immersive approach nurtures trilingual communicators who are confident, expressive, and culturally aware.

Community Engagement

We believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Through partnerships with families and the local community, children develop a strong sense of belonging, empathy, and social responsibility. Activities include charity projects, family workshops, and community visits.

Every month, we focus on one moral value through school-wide, family, and community-based activities – helping children grow into oaks of righteousness.

What curriculum does Mighty Oaks follow?

We use a proprietary school-based curriculum designed specifically for our trilingual, values-driven environment. It is not an off-the-shelf programme — it integrates the best practices from international early childhood education with a strong emphasis on moral literacy, character development, and systems thinking. Our curriculum prepares children for smooth transitions into both local and international primary schools.

How do you teach moral literacy and character?

Character education is woven into everything we do — it's not a separate lesson. As one of the best kindergartens in Hong Kong, we root our approach in the nine Fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Each month, we focus on one value through stories, role-play, classroom routines, bring-home activities, and guided discussions. Children learn what each value looks like in practice — how to be patient while waiting for a turn, how to show kindness to a friend who is upset, and how to practice self-control during exciting moments. Our approach aligns with the benefits of trilingual education for children, making us a leading choice among international nurseries in HK, especially for those seeking a play-based kindergarten experience or a trilingual school in Kennedy Town.

How do you balance academic learning with play?

We don't see academics and play as opposites. Play is how young children learn best. Our classrooms are designed so that guided play, structured activities, and teacher-led instruction all work together. A counting lesson might involve sorting toys in a pretend shop; a literacy activity might be acting out a story. The result is children who are academically well-prepared but who also love learning.

How do you assess my child's progress?

We use ongoing observational assessment rather than tests or exams. Our teachers document each child's development across key areas — language, cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and creative — through daily observations, portfolios of work, and milestone tracking. Parents receive regular updates through parent-teacher conferences, written reports, and informal daily communication.

How do you support children who need extra help or are advanced?

Our low teacher-to-student ratio (approximately 1:8) allows teachers to differentiate instruction for every child. For children who need additional support, we work closely with families and may recommend in-house or external resources. For children who are advanced in certain areas, teachers provide extension activities that challenge and engage them at their level. Every child's journey is individual.

How involved can parents be in the curriculum?

We believe parents are partners in education. We share curriculum themes and monthly focuses so you can reinforce learning at home. We host parent workshops, invite parents to special classroom events, and maintain open communication between teachers and families. Our parental partnership model empowers you to be an active role model in your child's moral and cognitive development.
